Deployment readiness

Interested isn't the same as able.

Plenty of investors will happily take a meeting from a fund that's two years from its next raise. Readiness tells you whether a firm can actually write the cheque now.

We look at

  • Fund age. Firms in years one to three of a fund are usually deploying. Late in a fund's life, new cheques slow down.

  • Pace. How many new investments they've made in the last six months, compared with their own normal rate.

  • Follow-on load. How much of their recent activity is backing existing companies rather than new ones.

  • Signs of a new raise. Registry filings and announcements that suggest the next fund is on the way.

Output: each fund gets a readiness label: Deploying, Slowing or Between funds, with the evidence listed underneath.

Readiness is an estimate built from public evidence. We show our working so you can disagree with it.

Fit score

Open the number and see what it's made of.

Every investor on your list gets a fit score from 0 to 100. Click it and you'll see the parts, each with the signal and source behind it.

  • Stage fit
  • Sector fit
  • Cheque size fit
  • Geography
  • Recency of relevant signals
  • Deployment readiness
  • Partner fit (the individual, not just the firm)

Weighting behaviour over positioning is deliberate. What a firm says it invests in tells you less than what it wrote a cheque for in the last six months.

Think a score is wrong? Tell us from the investor page. A person reads every correction, and fixes go back into the data for everyone.

Old news, ranked lower. Automatically.

Signals lose weight as they age, and different kinds decay at different speeds. A post asking founders to DM fades in weeks. A fund close stays relevant for a year or more. Your list re-ranks itself as the world moves, so this week's top ten reflects this week.

Hear about it the day it happens.

  • Watch any investor or list

    Follow the firms you care about and get the signals that matter, not every post.

  • Daily or weekly digests

    One email or Slack message with what changed on your list, ranked.

  • Straight into a workflow

    Send a signal into a Workflow to update your pipeline or start a follow-up.

Every signal has a date and a source you can open.

If one doesn't, that's a bug, and we want to hear about it. A tool that tells you something confident and unattributable is worse than no tool, because you'll act on it.

FAQ

How fresh are signals?

Sources are read continuously, and most categories are checked at least daily. {{TODO: confirm cadence per category and link to /data-sources}}

What's the difference between a signal and investor data?

Investor data is who a firm is: team, thesis, fund size. A signal is something that changed. Yellowtail has both, and ranks on the second.

Do you cover angels as well as funds?

{{CONFIRM}}

Can I add my own investors to watch?

Yes. Import a list or connect your CRM and we'll monitor those investors too. {{CONFIRM: import formats + CRMs}}

How is deployment readiness calculated?

From fund age, investment pace, follow-on activity and signs of a new raise. Every readiness label lists the evidence behind it.
