Data sources

We publish what we watch.

Everything an investor telegraphs about their next move is public somewhere: in a filing, a post, a podcast, a round announcement. It’s just spread across a hundred places. Here’s where we look, what each place tells us, and how often we check.

One post is a hint. Three signals in a month is evidence.

A partner posting about grid software might mean nothing. The same partner posting, their fund closing a new vehicle, and the firm leading a grid software seed in the same month means something. Cross-checking sources is how we tell the difference, and why every score comes with the signals that built it.

REGISTRIES

Registries & filings

Moving towards your kind of companySaltmarsh Partners registered Fund III · 2w · registry

Checked{{TODO: e.g. daily}}

What we read

Company and fund registries, regulatory filings, and public records of fund formation and closes across the regions we cover.

What it tells you

Whether a firm has money to deploy. A new fund or a final close is the strongest sign an investor will be writing cheques for the next two to three years. Filings also show the rounds that actually happened, not just the ones that were announced.

SOCIAL

Social profiles

Moving towards your kind of companyMaya Chen · Northwind Capital: “Spending the autumn on seed climate hardware.” · 3d · social

Checked{{TODO}}

What we read

Public posts from investors and their firms on the professional and social platforms where they talk about what they're looking for.

What it tells you

Intent, this week. Partners regularly say what they want to see, ask founders to get in touch, or signal a change of focus, long before a website is updated. It's the fastest-decaying signal we track, and one of the most valuable while it's fresh.

We only read what's publicly visible. We never access private messages or anything behind a login.

PRESS

Press & web mentions

Moving towards your kind of companyHelios Ventures led a £2.5M seed in grid software, with Fjordline Capital · 6d · press

Checked{{TODO}}

What we read

Round announcements, funding news, firm and portfolio blog posts, and trade press.

What it tells you

Who's actually leading deals, and with whom. Announcements name co-investors, which powers the co-investment graph behind Network. Portfolio news (follow-ons, exits, shutdowns) shows how much time and money a firm has left for new companies.

LONG-FORM

Podcasts, newsletters & talks

Moving towards your kind of companyPriya Raman · Saltmarsh Partners on a founder podcast: “We want vertical SaaS for regulated industries, pre-revenue is fine.” · 1w · podcast

Checked{{TODO}}

What we read

Investor podcasts, newsletters and recorded talks, transcribed and analysed for thesis and stage.

What it tells you

The thesis in their own words. Investors are more specific on a podcast than on their website. They'll name the problems they want solved, the models they're sceptical of and the cheque sizes they're comfortable with, often months before the firm's positioning catches up.

EVENTS

Events

Moving towards your kind of companyTom Okafor judging at a climate founder pitch night · in 9d · events

Checked{{TODO}}

What we read

Public speaker lists, judging panels, demo days, office hours and pitch nights.

What it tells you

Where they'll be, and what they're scouting for. An investor judging a climate pitch night next week is actively looking, and gives you a real-world reason to reach out, or a room to be in.

FIELD NOTES

Field notes

Moving awayHelios Capital pausing new pre-seed deals until next close · 5d · field note

CheckedAs they happen

What we read

Notes from real conversations: our research team's meetings and calls, and anything your team logs after coffee, a pitch or a conference.

What it tells you

What never gets published. “They’ve paused new pre-seed until the new fund closes” is said in the room, not online. Field notes capture it, date it and attach it to the investor, and your own notes stay private to your workspace.

What happens between the source and your list.

  1. 01

    Collect

    Read new material from every source category on its schedule.

  2. 02

    Match

    Work out which investor and which fund it's about, even when names are written differently.

  3. 03

    Classify

    Decide what kind of signal it is, which sectors and stages it touches, and whether it points towards or away.

  4. 04

    Weigh

    Score how much it matters, and let it fade as it ages.

Where we draw the line.

  • Public information only. No private messages, no content behind logins, no bought email lists.

  • Professional activity only. We track what investors do in their professional role, and nothing about their personal lives.

  • Corrections welcome. If we've got something wrong about a firm, tell us. A person reads it, and fixes go back into the data for everyone. Investors can request corrections too: {{TODO: corrections email}}

FAQ

Do you use LinkedIn or X data?

We read public posts on the platforms where investors talk about their work, within each platform's terms. {{CONFIRM wording with legal}}

Can I add my own sources?

Your field notes and imported investor lists are added to your workspace. {{CONFIRM: custom source requests}}

How do you stop duplicate or wrong matches?

Every signal goes through investor and fund matching before it reaches you. When a match is uncertain it's held back, not guessed.
